UAMS Celebrates Opening of 12th Street Student-Led Community Health Center
LITTLE ROCK – Students and faculty at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) today cut the ribbon and dedicated the 12th Street Health and Wellness Center, which will provide free health screenings and information to the minority community where the clinic is located.

Oct. 17, 2012 | A team of five University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) student pharmacists won the prestigious National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Business Plan Competition during the organization’s annual convention on Oct. 14 in San Diego.
College of Pharmacy Students & Faculty to Conduct Health Screenings
The College of Pharmacy students and faculty begin in October to conduct health screenings for UAMS employees and their spouses members who are signed up with the UA Health Plan and who allow health information to be included in the online health risk assessment (HRA) from OnLife. Screenings conducted will be blood pressure, heart rate, height, weight, body mass index, waist circumference, blood glucose, and lipid panel. Participants will receive screening results, generic information about how to improve health data, a referral to the UAMS Fitness Center and Employee walk-in clinic. Participants who complete the health screening (agree for data transmission to Onlife) and complete the online health risk assessment will receive a $25 gift card.

Arkansas Poison Control Center Receives Support from the Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services
The Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services approved a request (through DHS) for support of the Arkansas Poison Control Center that will provide approximately $690,000 retroactively for the past fiscal year, and a similar amount going forward. Thanks to Howell Foster for his leadership in the Center and his work in pursuing this funding!
College of Pharmacy Received a Million Hearts Team Up, Pressure Down Public Education Grant
The College of Pharmacy received a Million Hearts Team Up, Pressure Down public education grant of $5,000 from the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation. The College is one of 15 recipients selected from nearly 70 applicant schools and colleges of pharmacy.
UAMS’ Dennis Moore Becomes President of Arkansas Pharmacists Association
LITTLE ROCK – Dennis Moore, Pharm.D., director of the University of Arkansas for Medical Services (UAMS) Area Health Education Center (AHEC) North Central, was recently installed as president of the Arkansas Pharmacists Association (APA).
Moore, an assistant professor in the UAMS College of Pharmacy and a 1969 graduate of the college, assumed the one-year post during the association’s 130th annual convention in Rogers, where he also received the Cardinal Health General RX Champion Award honoring his work to educate others about drug addiction and treatment.
White Named Director of UAMS Community Health Center
LITTLE ROCK – Lanita Shaverd White, Pharm.D., has been named director of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Pharmacy-led 12th Street Health and Wellness Center.
She joined UAMS July 16, and the center is expected to open in September.
In her role as the center’s director, she will be responsible for developing and implementing health and wellness services and education for the residents of neighboring communities. White will promote interprofessional education through the development and coordination of teaching and clinical activities among students and faculty from a variety of disciplines.
