UAMS, More than the College of Pharmacy
As part of Arkansas’ only academic health system, the UAMS College of Pharmacy believes in creating an atmosphere that enhances each student’s academic experience and connection to UAMS. We are able to do this through student support services, cutting edge technology and student wellness.
Life on the UAMS Campus
Campus Life and Student Support Services is committed to strengthening the campus community and creating an atmosphere that enhances each student’s academic experience and connection to UAMS. Through the activities, facilities, and organizations listed below, students working in health care teams can connect outside of the classroom to build trust and collegiality, as well as find balance to demanding academic pursuits.
The UAMS Residence Hall on the Little Rock campus is a unique hybrid of a university-style dormitory and apartment dwelling. The facility is conveniently located on the northwest corner of the campus at 4601 W. Markham Street. The residence hall offers housing for students, patient families and other UAMS-affiliated guests. There are 177 units, with a mix of traditional dormitory-style rooms with semi-private baths, efficiency studios and one-bedroom apartments. You can reach the UAMS Housing Office at 501-680-5850.
The UAMS Student Center is a popular destination for student events, initiatives and campus-wide departmental collaborations. It is an open space with a modern design, flat screen televisions, and charge stations for electronic devices. The Student Center is an active, safe, all-inclusive, trendy place for students to study, hang out, have lunch and socialize with peers.
The UAMS Associated Student Government exists to represent and act in the interests of the students. Its duty is to establish and facilitate communication between all campus constituencies; provide assistance, as needed, to members of the community; assist in the formulation and implementation of university policies and practices; and promote elements of integrity, professionalism and impartiality.
The mission of the Student Success Center is to provide academic support to all UAMS students. We partner with students to identify learning needs and find solutions. The resources, services and tools offered foster independence and lead to student success.
Student Wellness
The mission of the UAMS Student Wellness Program is to promote wellness in our students by providing the tools and support to help them maintain balance in their lives and achieve their full professional and personal potential. It provides confidential assistance to actively enrolled UAMS students and their spouses who are experiencing emotional, psychological and psychiatric problems in a timely manner. There is no financial cost to students seeking care.
The 12th Street Health & Wellness Center serves as the leadership team for an interprofessional, student-run free health clinic in the Little Rock Promise Neighborhood. At the clinic, we have a mission to serve our patients and provide respectful and knowledgeable patient care for every person that walks in our doors. We also exist to improve the clinical and educational skills of students at UAMS and serve as a site where students can learn to work with students from other colleges. We are currently one of the only student-run free clinics in the nation that sees patients together as interprofessional teams of students. This kind of practice collaborating and learning from each other will serve us well in our future careers as we more deeply understand the diverse strengths and resources our colleagues from other disciplines bring to patient care.
The UAMS Fitness Center, open to all students, faculty and staff, is a commitment of UAMS to improve individual health and well-being by starting and continuing a regular exercise program. The fitness center is located on the eighth floor of the College of Public Health building and is open 24 hours, seven days a week, with key card access for your convenience.
The mission of the UAMS Intramural Sports program is to provide students the opportunity to participate in a variety of recreational sports and activities. The Campus Life Office is dedicated to promoting the development of the whole student through healthy competition in a fun and organized sports environment. We are committed to enhancing the institutional experience for our students while fostering a safe and inclusive environment that promotes health and wellness, sportsmanship, leadership development and campus pride. Sports offered through the intramural program include flag football, basketball, softball and bowling. Events, activities and facilities are open to all students enrolled at UAMS.
Social and Interprofessional Events and Activities
UAMS interprofessional student organizations are consistent with the mission of the office of Interprofessional Education: To create, develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with educators, clinicians, patients and organizations throughout the state of Arkansas to improve the care of patients, improve the health of the population and decrease the cost of care by utilizing innovation in interprofessional education, research and practice. Being involved in an organization provides students academic and professional development opportunities while connecting with other student and faculty mentors.
Centers for Simulation Education
Simulation Center: The Simulation Center at UAMS is dedicated to excellence in patient health care by advancing patient safety and improving multidisciplinary team performance through use of state-of-the-art simulation education. Health care professionals are trained to practice safe, effective and compassionate care with the goal of improving patient safety.
