The Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services approved a request (through DHS) for support of the Arkansas Poison Control Center that will provide approximately $690,000 retroactively for the past fiscal year, and a similar amount going forward. College of Pharmacy Received a Million Hearts Team Up, Pressure Down Public Education Grant
The College of Pharmacy received a Million Hearts Team Up, Pressure Down public education grant of $5,000 from the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation. The College is one of 15 recipients selected from nearly 70 applicant schools and colleges of pharmacy.
UAMS’ Dennis Moore Becomes President of Arkansas Pharmacists Association
LITTLE ROCK – Dennis Moore, Pharm.D., director of the University of Arkansas for Medical Services (UAMS) Area Health Education Center (AHEC) North Central, was recently installed as president of the Arkansas Pharmacists Association (APA).
Moore, an assistant professor in the UAMS College of Pharmacy and a 1969 graduate of the college, assumed the one-year post during the association’s 130th annual convention in Rogers, where he also received the Cardinal Health General RX Champion Award honoring his work to educate others about drug addiction and treatment.
White Named Director of UAMS Community Health Center
LITTLE ROCK – Lanita Shaverd White, Pharm.D., has been named director of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Pharmacy-led 12th Street Health and Wellness Center.
She joined UAMS July 16, and the center is expected to open in September.
In her role as the center’s director, she will be responsible for developing and implementing health and wellness services and education for the residents of neighboring communities. White will promote interprofessional education through the development and coordination of teaching and clinical activities among students and faculty from a variety of disciplines.
UAMS Researchers Make Breakthrough in Radiation Protection
LITTLE ROCK – Researchers at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) have shown for the first time that boosting a protein pathway in the body’s circulatory system can act as protection against potentially fatal radiation poisoning.

College of Pharmacy Hosts 37 Students at Summer Camp

“Look at this! It’s called majestic purple,” Hunt, a high school senior from Wynne, said enthusiastically, as she held up a small plastic bottle filled with liquid dye.
Across the table, Jared Dietz, a senior from Searcy, was heating a beaker of shea butter and aloe vera body lotion he’d already fragranced with Polo Sport by Ralph Lauren.
UAMS Pharmacy Dean’s Service Award Honors Batesville Pharmacist
LITTLE ROCK – Steve Bryant, owner of Bryant’s Pharmacy and Health Care Center in Batesville, received the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Pharmacy Dean’s Award for Service to the College during the Senior Honors Convocation on May 18.
Bryant received the award, given to a pharmacist, for giving his time, talent and resources to benefit and advance the UAMS College of Pharmacy and for his example of professionalism to students.
UAMS Graduates 906 New Health Care Professionals
LITTLE ROCK – The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) awarded certificates and degrees today to 906 graduates of its five colleges and graduate school during its commencement ceremony at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock.
Diplomas were presented to 129 in the College of Medicine; 263 in the College of Nursing; 112 in the College of Pharmacy; 44 in the Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health; 85 in the Graduate School and 273 from the 21 academic programs that make up the College of Health Related Professions.
Pharmacy Dean Named Fellow of American Council on Education
LITTLE ROCK – Stephanie F. Gardner, Pharm.D., Ed.D., dean of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Pharmacy, has been named an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow for academic year 2012-13.
The prestigious ACE Fellows Program, established in 1965, is designed to strengthen institutions and leadership in American higher education by identifying and preparing promising senior faculty and administrators for responsible positions in college and university administration.
UAMS College of Pharmacy Dean’s Award Goes to UT Professor
LITTLE ROCK – The Dean’s Award for Lifetime Achievement from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Pharmacy was given to J. Aubrey Waddell, Pharm.D., professor of clinical pharmacy at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy.
The award for long and consistent achievement in the profession of pharmacy was presented during the Senior Honors Convocation on May 18.
